Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. God is love. We are made in His image and likeness, therefore, we are to show love and the kind of mercy Jesus showed by dying for us. Let us show that mercy by thwarting selfishness and practicing forgiveness and generosity.
We can also recite the Chaplet for Divine Mercy today and any day at 3PM. If done with the intention “to implore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for those who are afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom the Lord has called to Himself,” the Vatican has issued a plenary indulgence. (Plenary indulgences relieve the temporary punishment resulting from venial sin (of rejecting God, the source of all good). (Grave sins must still be confessed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation & Penance.)
To receive the indulgence, the usual conditions of receiving sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and praying for the Holy Father’s intentions are waived during the pandemic.
